About Jake

Jake Potter is the Founder of the Australian Centre for Embodied Practice (ACEP), Associate Lecturer at Ikon Institute of Australia, practising Psychotherapist, Certified Open Floor Movement Teacher and host of the Embodied Life Podcast. 

Award Winner of the 2020 Dr Rafael Locke Award.
This award is given for demonstrating Clinical and Academic Excellence in the practice of Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Jake’s Story

Jake’s early years were spent living and teaching Open Floor at the seminal Esalen Institute in Big Sur, California. During this period, he was fortunate enough to study with some of the leading psychotherapists, practitioners and thinkers in the field of Gestalt Therapy, Somatic Therapies, Psychology and Neuroscience. Jake subsequently spent a year as a resident teacher at Esalen Institute.  

Jake has since had an extensive teaching career, spanning Australia and the United States. Jake has guest lectured at Universities such as New York University (NYU), Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) and Ikon Institute on topics of movement, agency, the body and psychotherapeutic practice more generally.

Jake continues to teach and nurture a large community of Open Floor Movement students in Melbourne whilst continuously engaging in his lecturing, scholarly and psychotherapeutic work in the field of embodied practice and psychotherapy.

Education & Professional Associations

Jake has received a BA of Counselling & Psychotherapy (Ikon Institute), and is currently undertaking Post-Graduate studies in Psychology at Monash University. Jake continues to Lecture in the BA of Counselling & Psychotherapy and the BA of Arts Psychotherapy at Ikon Institute and continues to further the field of embodied and somatic psychotherapeutic practice.

Jake is a member of the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA) Member No. 8867, the Australian Counselling Association (ACA): Member No. 16925, and the International Conscious Movement Teachers Association (ICMTA) Member No. 35281844.
